We have a Placement Cell and a Career Youth Club which, when it was established, was the first of its kind in a non-professional degree college. We have since, been holding regular job festivals where a number of reputed companies like Dell, Standard Chartered Bank, IBM (Daksh), GE Services, ING Vysya, Wipro, Infosys, Global Vantage, Excel Call Net, Spice Telecom, Bank of America and Convergys have been recruiting our students. Many of our students are working with leading newspapers and television channels as news reporters and correspondents. IBM Daksh started its own Campus Training Centre, the first of its kind in Chandigarh, to train the recruited students in GCG campus itself.
The Placement Cell of the college remained active throughout the year.. The Career and Youth club of the college conducted the annual survey of the career preferences of the students under the supervision of the placement cell in charges. The results of the survey showed that 50% of the students wish to pursue higher studies as their first preference, 42% of the students are interested in jobs after completing their degrees where as 8% want to be entrepreneurs.
The Placement cell aims at assisting the students in taking suitable career decisions, solving their educational and behavioral problems. With the help of volunteers from career club, a number of workshops/seminars were organized in the campus to appraise the students of the career opportunities in the traditional and emerging sectors viz civil services, management, animation, media, accountancy etc. The experts from concerned industry were invited. The interactive sessions were hosted by inviting the experts to train the students in resume writing, group discussions, interviews, and dress codes. The slogan writing and poster making competitions were held on issues related to career planning.
This year about 200 students appeared in the National Accreditation of Competency Test conducted by Nasscom which helped them getting assessed for their soft skills and other competencies. This was followed by a Jobfest in the campus where leading companies in the IT sectors like Accenture, IBM, HCl, and Dell recruited the students. Like previous years, the regular campus placement drive was carried out in the month of January-February. It is a matter of pride that more than 250 students were selected during the campus placement by Multinational companies like IBM Daksh, Dell, Convergys, etc. The offer letters were given to the selected students by the companies offering pay ranging betwen 1.lac to 2 lacs.
