Courses offered & Admissions

The college, affiliated to the Panjab University, offers the following courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate level:

B. A. / B. Com. II, III (Honours)

B. Sc. (Computer Sc.) I, II, III
M.A. I, II Music (Instrumental)

Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA)
Add on course in Guidance and Counselling (BA., B.SC.,B.Com)*

Eligibility for undergraduate courses (B.A. / B.Sc. / B.Com / BCA.)

10 + 2 Board or any other equivalent examination recognized by the Panjab University, Chandigarh.
 

Eligibility for Post Graduate courses:

Students who have done their graduation or any other equivalent examination with at least 50% marks are eligible for admission to M.A. I. PU rules and regulations for admission will be applicable.
 
Candidates seeking admission to M.A. in Music (Vocal / Instrumental) and Dance will be required to take a practical test at the time of admission.
 
Seats being limited, admission will be strictly on merit.
 
Note:
Admission to all post graduate courses will commence two days after the admission at the Panjab University Campus takes place.
 

 New Courses
  Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications – 40 seats
    Eligibility for PGDCA
  • Graduate (B.Sc. / B.A. / B.Com. or equivalent under 10+2+3 system  of    examinations)
  • B.Tech / B.E.
  • Any other examination recognized by the Panjab University as equivalent to (i) and (ii) above.
  • The admission will be as per norms laid down by the Panjab University.
  • Students from universities other than the Panjab University must attach a No Objection Certificate granting permission to pursue the course with the Panjab University.   
  Add on course in Guidance and Counselling (BA, B.Sc., B.Com)
    (Subject to approval by the Panjab University)

 

Course of Study for B.A. I

    Compulsory subjects:
  • English
  • Environment Education
  • Punjabi / History and Culture of Punjab

Elective subjects:

The student has to opt for three elective subjects in addition to the above mentioned three compulsory subjects. They have to choose these elective subjects in such a way that not more than one subject is opted for from the following group of subjects :
  • English, Hindi, Punjabi, French (elective)
  • Economics, Fine Arts
  • History, Mathematics, Music (Instrumental), Functional English
  • Music (Vocal)
  • Public Administration, Home Science, Philosophy
  • Political Science, Indian Classical Dance
  • Sanskrit, Physical Education, Psychology, Geography
  • Sociology

Functional English

For granting Functional English subject the following criteria, as outlined by the University Grants Commission, will be followed :
  • There will be only 30 seats in this subject
  • Preference will be given to students who have cleared + 2 with English Course A.
  • A test will be conducted for speaking and writing skills.
  • Opting for Functional English does not guarantee admission to the subject without clearing the test.
The above criteria will be combined with the marks that the student has secured in English and in the aggregate.
 

Guidelines for choice of subjects:

  • Change of subject will be allowed only upon the availability of the seat in the subject to be opted for.
  • Students opting for science, commerce and any other practical subject must note that they cannot appear as private candidates if they do not fulfill the condition that requires them to have an attendance of 75%, both in theory and practicals. Students are also required to fulfill the academic conditions laid down by the university in terms of a minimum score in the house examinations.
  • A student cannot opt for Mathematics unless it was one of the subjects cleared by her in the previous examination.
  • Students who have not studied French earlier can take it up as an elective subject in B.A.- I, since the French syllabus for this class begins with the basics.
Students who had not taken up Music (Vocal or Instrumental) in 10 + 2 are eligible to opt for these subjects in BA-I.

Note :-  
  • Forms for admission to all Post-Graduate classes are to be submitted by 27.06.2008.  However, in case of non-declaration of B.A. III result by 27.06.2008, students seeking admission to Post Graduate Courses should submit  the admission forms within seven days of the date of declaration of B.A. III result. Applicants to check the date for admission to MA classes from the College office.
  • Orientation programme is to be compulsorily attended by wards and the parents of the students admitted to the college hostel.  The date for the Orientation Programme will be notified at the time of admission.  Students to check the date of orientation at the time of admission.
